Portfolio Advisor
Portfolio Advisor gives an investment manager immediate on-screen access to all key data relating to an individual client’s objectives and their available investment opportunities. It enables the details of a client’s existing portfolio to be viewed against the context of both the firm’s current economic outlook, plus the prospects for an industry sector and individual shares. An account manager can then take active control of their clients’ interests and provide an accurate and highly personalised investment service.
Sophisticated and immediate enquiries can be carried out on individual clients, groups of clients or where appropriate, across a firm’s entire client list. The investment manager is then able to create client contact lists based on portfolio positions, sector, cash, geographic location and account type. The results of these searches can be viewed as reports, as on-screen views or exported in file format. This enables the firm to offer the identified clients personalised investment opportunities that are relevant to their profile.
Model portfolios can be created and applied to client accounts to ensure the firm‘s investment approach is executed in the most efficient manner. If a number of models are already in existence, these can quickly be imported and applied to client accounts. Portfolio models can contain a combination of cash, equity, fixed interest and collective investments.
Portfolio Advisor also provides the firm with an trade capture and routing facility that allows orders, which are generated as a result of the investment management process, to be aggregated and routed to the appropriate execution destination. Utilising STP, multiple venues can be polled and the appropriate liquidity pool selected, to comply with the firm’s “best execution” policy, as per Article 21 of MiFID.
Any orders that cannot be executed automatically because of their size, are routed to the dealer’s blotter where they can be seized and dealt with manually. The resulting trades can then be reported automatically to the settlement system, further helping to reduce manual tasks, improve efficiencies and cuts costly dealing and reconciliation errors.
Portfolio Adviser also provides support when a client makes contact with their broker. It gives the account manager immediate access to that client’s personal details including MiFID category (Retail, Professional or Eligible Market Counterparty) plus their investment strategy. The system also maintains a history of client/broker communications, including an electronic recording of changes to clients’ investment planning instructions, stock alerts as well as personal Know Your Customer and diary details.
Investment managers are also able to create personalised real-time stock alerts on behalf of their clients. These are monitored automatically by Portfolio Adviser on an active basis and trigger buy and sell recommendations for individual clients. This removes the need for an investment manager to monitor the individual performance of companies and stocks manually.
Data to support Portfolio Advisor is obtained from a firm’s existing settlement system via a real-time interface or file export. This enables data to be easily extracted from the system without altering the database.
